A place to call home
We have just signed a lease for a condo.
In case you were wondering a condo is a complex that has seperate title for each unit and therefore has multiple owners. An apartment is a complex that is owned and run by a single entity.
Anyway, we had come over here with a maximum we felt we would pay a month. Any more we felt would be self defeating. We were being shown these houses that were stand alone (generally around the 2000 sq ft), but were scummy enough that we would be sick of them soon enough.
Another worry was the fact that we'd have to fill these great big places with junk and have to off load gear in 3 years time.
We were running out of houses to look at, when the relo advisor suggested taking a look at some apartments. She warned us that these were on the small side and generally you have to share a wall or floor or whatever. Had a look at a could and we were sold on the idea.
So, after vowing never to move into a place that shares walls ever again, we are living in a place that shares walls and a floor no less.
We are on the top story of a two story building in a gated community of about 200 apartments spread across a couple of acres of lakeside land. The construction is such that we'll never hear the neighbours.
We have an awesome deck and view overlooking the local lake, which is about 50 metres away. A 2 story, 3 bedroom , 3 bathroom place that is as big as a normal house in NZ. It has skylights, that let sunlight in and give a feeling of space (in fact it's 1800 sq ft, so not that small anyway).
Has huge spaces between buildings with plenty of lawn (that I don't have to mow). The community is gated so we don't have to worry about Hannah being outside.
OK, shelter is sorted, now comes the fun part of filling it....
